Useful Videos

Youtube is a great source for short and long clips of various restorations.  You can also find some very useful instructional videos for replacing and repairing various parts of a DS.

Here are my top 'go-to' sites:

Servicing The Goddess
Made by new kids on the block "Fly On The Wall Productions” in collaboration with Adie Pease of Peacock Engineering, these videos take their cue from the excellent videos made by the Dutch ‘DSTT’ team (see below).

They are filling a much needed gap by producing English language maintenance videos and set out to cover some of the simpler and more basic DS tasks that any owner/ driver could tackle.

The videos are generally short and sweet and delivered in a friendly style that is easy to understand. All in all very helpful information for anyone that has been too scared to peep under their own bonnet.

So far they have produced 14 videos which include changing the oil filter, cleaning the air filter, greasing and grease points, removing a rear wheel, cleaning the hydraulic fluid filter, bleeding the brakes, setting up a bvh car and more besides.

I’m sure the list will grow, so here is a link to their main page on Youtube.

DSSMPassion
Some very useful videos for some of the nitty gritty of strip down and repair - such as the starter motor, oil pump and hydraulic pump. Here is the homepage on Youtube

AND you get the theme music from 'The Persuaders' to boot........

DS TECHNICAL TEAM

It's also worth looking at the Dutch homepage as there are other videos there and they are not too hard to follow. Here is the link:

  1. Thanks for mentioning the DS-TT youtube films. In the list are the links to our Dutch spoken films. It is better to search in the channel DS-TT English. There we have the same films, but with English subtitling

  2. Also I would like to get one of the barb fittings usuing the 9mm tap to install in the Weber carbs of the cars I work on.
Yes, they will definitely catch on fire unless attended to properly. Any reference as to where to purchase the brass fitting would be most appreciated as well.

  3. Hi Rob

Have you read both the related posts - 10 November 2015 and 24 September 2018?

In terms of the 2015 post, you could try Roger in new Zealand for an ‘original’ like I did. His email address is in my post of 10 November 2015.

Alternatively, you could just try Googling for local suppliers. Basically you are looking for a “1/8 inch by 5/16 inch ’male hose tail fitting”. 1/8" refers to the imperial thread size of the threaded end. 5/16" refers to the internal diameter of the rubber hose you will push on to the fitting. 5/16" is about 8mm so the size of the DS fuel pipe. In the UK there are ‘British Standard” pipe fittings: BSPT means that the fitting has a slight taper on the threaded end, this would mean that it got tighter as you screwed it in. there is a risk of it then cracking and splitting the carburettor body if you are too forceful. This could lead to a fuel leak - the very thing you are trying to avoid.....So, instead, (in the UK) I advise trying to find a 'BSPP' variant as the threaded part will have parallel sides - just like a bolt.
